INDIANAPOLIS (November 22, 2016) – With countless deals and coupons flooding your inbox in anticipation for shopping madness, there’s no shortage of options to spend money this holiday season. But if you’re not one for crowds or already have your presents purchased, there are a few ways you can easily give your support to Alpha Kappa Psi’s mission, members and foundation.
1. Small Business Saturday
While Black Friday draws shoppers to larger retail stores, the Saturday after Thanksgiving promotes the use of brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. One way to give back this season is to support the many AKPsi members who own local businesses. In the past few years, billions of dollars have been spent on this day alone helping small businesses continue to grow. If you know an AKPsi member who owns a local business, share it with your friends and family via social media or in person, encouraging them to utilize their services.
2. Cyber Monday
Shopping online for your holiday gifts beats the long lines and crowded stores, but did you know you can give back to a charity of your choice using Amazon Smile? With no additional cost to you, Amazon Smile will then donate 0.5% of your purchase to support the foundation. To get started simply visit smile.amazon.com, sign in, search “Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation”, and once selected – begin shopping! This is an easy way to shop throughout the year while gradually increasing your donation to help the foundation.
3. #GivingTuesday
On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, millions of people around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. You don’t have to be a world leader or a billionaire to give back. #GivingTuesday is about ordinary people coming together doing extraordinary things. This year, consider making a gift to the Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation through the Give $5, Tag 5 Challenge. To get started: Donate $5 to the AKPsi Foundation, share on social media your contribution, then challenge five of your family or friends to do the same by tagging them in your post.
No matter how you choose to give – through locally owned businesses, Amazon Smile or #GivingTuesday – your support helps to bring us one step closer to making the fraternity’s vision a reality. Much of AKPsi’s future success depends upon the foundation’s efforts to secure the educational resources that are in ever-increasing demand by our undergraduates.
