Meet Griffin Buckley, Annual Fund Coordinator for the Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation. The Annual Fund Coordinator is a new position dedicated to coordinating annual gifts and assisting in maintaining Foundation operations. Griffin started on staff in January of 2018 after graduating from Ball State University in December 2017. Find out what you and Griffin have in common!
- Before working at the Heritage Center, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I have worked in a few different industries since middle school. I’ve worked at restaurants, the YMCA, Crate & Barrel, and in tech support positions. All have taught me very valuable lessons in customer service.
- Least favorite Food?
I’m going to say hot dogs.
- Are you messy or organized?
I’m pretty messy. I won’t beat around the bush on that one.
- What is your favorite part about working at the Heritage Center?
I would say my coworkers. I really enjoy working alongside Jessica. Every day I feel like I learn something new.
- How do you define success?
Success to me is being completely comfortable with yourself and your actions.
- What is your hidden talent?
I am actually a licensed scuba diver. I don’t know how “fun” that might be considered.
- Where is your hometown?
I spent a lot of time growing up split between Indiana and Wisconsin. I don’t really know which I consider more a hometown though.
- What is your favorite meal?
I’m a really big fan of sandwiches. I don’t think you can go wrong with one. However, if I were to big a favorite it would probably be a Croque Monsieur.
- If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
I would definitely be an astronaut if it didn’t involve flying or heights.
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am a very big coffee drinker. It’s something I’m working on, but whatever I’m doing in my spare time you just assume that I am also drinking iced coffee while doing it.
- What does true leadership mean to you?
I think that leadership is about inspiring others to act at their full potential.
- What does a typical day look like for you?
That’s a tricky question because I feel like every day is a little different. I’m usually working on some portion of a foundation campaign. I check my email a lot and there’s an occasional meeting to go to.
- What are your hopes for our industry (Greek Life)?
My hope is that Alpha Kappa Psi continues to embrace its Greek Life roots and changes the conversation on what a fraternity is. There’s so much negativity out there but I think Alpha Kappa Psi can help change the connotation and lead by example.
I also hope to convey the dedication of those on staff here at the Heritage Center. As someone who is not a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi, I work hard every day because I am inspired by what AKPsi has offered so many and the impact it can make.
- If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?
I feel like this is a very generic answer, but I am going to say Tina Fey. I’m a fan of 30 Rock so it would just be fun to sit and talk about life and her work.
