INDIANAPOLIS (November 5, 2015) — As a part of the Pi Omega Chapter’s 2015-16 “A Fresh Start Campaign”, they are raising awareness to benefit community Homeless Shelters throughout the country this November 9-10 in honor of Veteran’s Day.
A Fresh Start is a national non-profit organization benefiting homeless men, women, and children and was also founded by a brother of the Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, Janza Stannard.
When Stannard began working on the idea for A Fresh Start, she was a freshman in high school and the idea was originally a local drive at her high school to collect toiletries for homeless shelters. Once starting school at Purdue University and joining Alpha Kappa Psi, she took the initiative and brought it nation wide. After many years of working on her personal mission and having a vision for seeing it grow, she continues to encourage universities and businesses to join the campaign and raise awareness.
The goal of their continued work is through collaboration with universities and businesses, to help improve the lifestyle of homeless individuals through hygiene, clothing, professional development, and teaching of personal financial stability.
Shelters throughout the country are in need of toiletries, towels and bedding to service the thousands of homeless seen each day. The Pi Omega Chapter, which supports the cause and campaign yearly, aims to connect the web of chapters across the nation to provide these needed essentials.
