SEASIDE, CA (December 7, 2015) – The colony at California State University-Monterey Bay installed as the Chi Kappa Chapter this past Saturday.
The Chi Kappa Chapter installed with 42 founding members. |
During the course of the colonization period for Chi Kappa, the members put on various events that brought together the campus, community and future brothers. The events have included fundraising for the Heritage Foundation, working with the Fairground of Monterey, potluck events to celebrate the bonds of brotherhood, a résumé workshop and bringing in a professional speaker. With each event, the members grew together in their personal professional development and as a chapter.
One of the group’s philanthropic events was forming a team with another organization on campus for March of Dimes, whose mission is to provide a means for lifesaving research on premature births and to provide improved care for mothers and babies. The members decided together that this was a perfect opportunity to raise money and join together for the March of Dimes 5K walk.
In a chartering petition letter of support, Central Pacific Regional Director, Shane Wakerling, shared his perspective of the chapter’s involvement. “Their community service with the March of Dimes nonprofit organization has turned heads all around campus and they are planning on continuing this event every year. After working with the Interclub Council, they were named an official team for the school. They fundraised and completed a 5K as a colony. Overall, they raised the second highest amount of money on campus. [ …] Each colonist was cheering each other on and they were by far the most cohesive group there.”
The group is full of passionate members, ready to continue growing the chapter and presence on the CSU-Monterey Bay campus. From the bonds the chapter has already created, to the events that have brought their community together – they are focused on providing outstanding professional development through Alpha Kappa Psi.
“As brothers, we are very excited to see this fraternity take off and grow. We push each other to become better students and individuals. […] We are very proud of where we are now, and are very excited to see what the future holds for Alpha Kappa Psi here at California State University, Monterey Bay.”
