SALT LAKE CITY (April 18, 2016) — Alpha Kappa Psi, the largest international professional business fraternity, recently re-chartered the Alpha Iota Chapter at the University of Utah.
The re-chartering was directed by Charles D. Steffens, Portland ’87-Life with 38 new students initiated as members. This revitalization marks efforts of the Alpha Iota Chapter which originally lasted 62 years after charterng in 1922.
During the colonization period, the students will host various professional, service-related, fundraising and social events. Through their experience, the students will develop skills that will easily translate to their professional career. The colony’s events included professional events such as a Brooks Brothers lecture and an entrepreneur Speaker Series. Along with professional workshops, the colony strengthened their ties with one another by holding a Suit and Tie brotherhood event and multiple service events working in grounds keeping for a local low-income school.
In a letter of support for the group, Western Great Plains Regional Director Chelsea E. Hardy, Denver ’10-Life spoke on the impact they will have at the University of Utah,” said Hardy. “They have been successful in forming connections with the president of the University of Utah, the dean of the business school, The Associated Students of the University of Utah, and members of the faculty. With their positive attitude and hard work, I believe those connections will thrive in the years to come. ”
The group is led by Chapter President, Jackson Murdock and supported by Area II Vice President Gregory Q. Patterson, Northwood ’02, Regional Director Chelsea Hardy, Colony Advisor Lana S. Abuhudra, Central Washington ’11, Section Director Heather D. Robinette, Kansas ’09-Life, and Faculty Advisors Cole Holmes and Mark Parker.
“As their colony advisor, I have been able to interact with them and watch them show tremendous improvement over the past few weeks,” said Abuhudra. “I have witnessed them grow as individuals and as a group and have been very impressed with their improvement and their growth.”
