HAYS, KS (April 1, 2016) – The Zeta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi at Fort Hays State University will host a benefit concert for former advisor Joan Rumpel, ‘82-Faculty.
Last spring, the Zeta Pi chapter lost their long-time advisor to a long battle with cancer. The concert will be held in remembrance of Joan and will benefit the Cancer Council of Ellis County who educate the county on cancer related issues and topics.
The event will be held at Fire and Ice on Friday, April 15 with a performance from the Jared Daniels Band. The band has spent many days and nights playing National Festivals including Country Stampede, Wild West Festival, Dodge City Days, The Flatland’s Festival and opening up for many national acts such as, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Jerrod Niemann, Joe Nichols, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Michael Montgomery, Joe Diffie, Tracy Lawrence, Sawyer Brown, Charlie Daniels Band, Josh Abbott Band, Randy Rogers, Jack Ingram, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Kevin Fowler, Wade Bowen and many others.
Rumpel earned a master’s degree in business administration from Fort Hays State and later achieved the rank of certified public accountant. In 1977 she joined the FHSU Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting, where she taught accounting for 34 years. Rumpel was the advisor of the Zeta Pi chapter for more than 30 years and was initiated as a faculty member of Alpha Kappa Psi in 1982.
