INDIANAPOLIS (September 26, 2016) – Alpha Kappa Psi recently released two new webinars focusing on hazing prevention and optimizing your résumé – each gained more than 125 registrants.
Sandi Edwards Liz Vickers |
Led by Sandi Edwards (former National President of Alpha Xi Delta) and Liz Vickers (Chapter Services Coordinator for Alpha Kappa Psi), “Unveiling the Facts: The Truth About Hazing” was held during National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW). The webinar illustrates how hazing is not a means of gaining respect or showing loyalty, but a demonstration of power that has lasting negative effects. Attendees were taught the mystifying truths about hazing, the dangers it presents, and how anyone can join the fight for hazing prevention.
“If you see something, say something,” said Edwards. “Ask the person what the purpose of that particular activity is. Seek to understand before you are understood. Then you can have a dialogue about how to accomplish that purpose (if it’s a good purpose) in a different manner.” |

Mike Callahan Tuere Wheeler |
The second webinar of the month, “Optimize your Résumé to Kickstart Your Career” was led by Mike Callahan and Tuere Wheeler (faculty members at The University of Michigan – Dearborn). The webinar sought to showcase the importance of a well-built résumé and its necessity in the job search process. The presenters discussed how to create a résumé that will gain the attention of hiring managers and demonstrated how a person’s skills and abilities can benefit an organization.
As the author of “I Inc.”, Callahan offers an online educational course which teaches students how to market themselves effectively in today’s competitive professional environment. “The book is an excellent choice for business program courses in career development, but is applicable to any student who wants to present their skills and abilities in a way that future employers will truly value and appreciate.” |
