FERNDALE, WA (November 16, 2015) – For the Omega Beta Chapter at Western Washington University, giving back to the community meant volunteering at this year’s 2015 Hands for Hope Gala.
The Hands for Hope Gala supports services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault provided by the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County (DVSAS). Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services is a county-wide, volunteer based organization that serves individuals of all ages affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. The agency provides client-centered, accessible services which promote empowerment, choice and safety.
In a letter addressing the success of the gala, Katie Rose, Community Engagement Specialist at DVSAS, said, “This year, we raised more than $93,000. That’s a tremendous amount of money, but that’s more than just dollars. That’s a tremendous number of lives changed, changed because of you.”
The chapter has provided volunteers during each year of the gala, with the number of volunteers exceeding 20 members this year. Their role as volunteers was incredibly significant towards the outcome of this event’s success. They gave their services, not because of a requirement, or because they were told, but because they understand the impact their service would provide.
“Though this event is full of laugher and liveliness, the underlying cause is of a very serious nature and it’s always important to take time to reflect. We are proud to work with such an influential organization within the Bellingham community.” – Omega Beta Chapter.
