Dear brothers,
In 2012, AKPsi created a task force to identify opportunities for organizational improvement, particularly to address the significant growth in student initiates, student members and student chapters over the last ten years. Our organizational structure had not changed for several decades and is now inadequate to support our exploding growth. The task force designed a solution to ensure we continue to provide outstanding services and advice to our current members and to allow for future growth.
It was determined that a regional realignment was in order to smooth out the size and chapter imbalance throughout the organization. To do this, we wanted a much smaller span of control throughout the organizational structure – a span of four. Four new “areas” have been created, each led by an area vice president. Each area will contain four regions. Therefore, the new structure will move from 13 regions to 16 in order to provide a more effective means of servicing, advising, and supporting our members and chapters. The realignment will take effect July 1, 2014, in order to be implemented for the new academic and fiscal years.
The fraternity is pleased to announce the new area vice presidents who will take office on July 1, 2014:
- Area I – Mike Dickson, Central Washington ‘02-Life
- Area II – Greg Patterson, Northwood ‘02
- Area III – Mike Dickerson, Virginia Tech ‘04-Life
- Area IV – Chris Bucknam, Virginia Tech ‘95-Life

In March, a call for nominations for regional directors will be sent to the brotherhood in accordance with our governing documents.
I hope you share my excitement as Alpha Kappa Psi continues to evolve in order to remain the premier developer of principled business leaders for decades to come.
