INDIANAPOLIS (November 20, 2015) – As part of a risk management initiative, Alpha Kappa Psi incepted the Member Accident Protection Program, or MAPP, in 2009 and has been a benefit of membership ever since.
MAPP, which is a benefit within the fraternity insurance program, makes sure all eligible undergraduate members and pledges of the fraternity are insured for covered injuries which are incurred while the policy is in force and occur while in good standing with the fraternity.
This coverage is in effect 365 days a year at all times, and the injury does not have to be as a result of an Alpha Kappa Psi activity or event. For example, if a student falls while walking to class and breaks a leg, any out of pocket medical expenses can be covered under this policy, up to a maximum of $25,000.
To put this in perspective, here are a few recent reports (with any identifiable information removed):
| · A student member tore his ACL while playing intramural flag football and was reimbursed $4,300.
· A student fell down stairs and broke his ankle resulting in a payment of $4,600. · A member slipped and fell on her way to class resulting in a payment of $1,100. |
The insurance program of Alpha Kappa Psi is incredibly inclusive. Fraternity chapters and colonies, housing corporations, house holding corporations, alumni boards, alumni associations, board of advisors, executive board, parent clubs, officers, directors, volunteers, faculty advisors, members, pledges, and employees of the fraternity are all covered under the insurance policy. Making sure that members receive the most benefits out of their membership is imperative to the fraternity.
