This year at the Waycross Camp and Conference Center in Morgantown, Indiana, twenty brothers gathered to take part in the 2017 Academy. These hand-selected Academy fellows were provided an all-expenses paid leadership retreat, courtesy of the Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation, to challenge and strengthen their skills as professional business leaders. The intensive leadership training separated fellows from their everyday lives and threw them into rigorous team building exercises where they learned to better handle leadership scenarios.
This opportunity also allowed Academy fellows from across the globe a chance to bond and exchange stories from their chapters, passing along advice and personal experiences. “I think it’s a really great opportunity to not only put yourself out there but to develop some really great leadership skills” said Madeline E. Curry, Wyoming ’13 of being a part of Academy. Fellows are encouraged to take the skills learned while at Waycross and implement them back at their own chapters and universities, helping to mentor leaders at a local level.
Although their time together may be short, the fellows form a tight knit group by the end of the weekend. The upcoming 2017 Convention in Las Vegas allows them to reunite and meet Academy attendees from previous years, sharing and discussing their own experiences.
