Marshall University Names AKPsi Member for Prestigious Award

According to Leadership & Service Award application, the student receiving this award is a new member to a student organization who has contributed outstanding ideas and service to that organization and has had a positive influence on the group. This individual will have a demonstrated dedication to organizing events/activities and has actively worked to improve Marshall University and or the greater Huntington community.

Crystal Stewart, a nominator, wrote the following:

“Sidney Thompson has held the position as Vice President of Membership in Alpha Kappa Psi for the Spring semester. Sidney pledged the fraternity in the Spring of 2013, but studied abroad during the Fall. She, however, came back ready to work and has done an outstanding job in her first full semester as a member. She even took on the responsibility of an officer position. Her dedication and commitment to the chapter has paid off in reaching the AKPsi national minimum standard for members for our chapter. In my three years as the advisor for this chapter, this is the first time this standard has been met. Sidney successfully managed recruitment events and educating the incoming members and their pledging process. Sidney demonstrates potential as a future business leader and is well deserving of the Outstanding New Member Award. Congratulations, Sidney!”

On behalf of Alpha Kappa Psi, congratulations, Sidney! Thank you for advancing our values and guiding principles.

Florida Alumna is Not Your Typical CPA

Larysa Switlyk’s family didn’t know what to make of her. The University of Florida graduate (Alpha Phi ‘04) had zipped through bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting in four years, earned her CPA, fulfilled her dream of living and working in New York City by interning there with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Her future in the business world seemed bright.
