SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (February 25, 2016) — For the second year, the Pi Rho Chapter at Cal Poly delivered a successful Charity:Ball, raising money for Charity:Water and giving many people access to clean water.
Charity:Water, a nonprofit on a mission to bring clean drinking water to every person on the planet, supports events such as Charity:Ball and others by proving each donation goes to their clean water efforts. Charity:Ball is a night where the chapter brought supporters together to let them know how big of a difference their contribution can make towards providing clean water. The night was full of performances, speakers, and exhibits centered on clean water resources and how attendees could make a difference.
David Ha, member of Pi Rho and project lead, was motivated “after seeing how much of a difference one person can make. It’s crazy how there are over 663 million people in the world that don’t have easy access to clean water. But what I find crazier is that I can help make a huge dent in that number with just a small contribution. I wanted to start this campaign because I could let people enjoy themselves while helping others in return. Nothing feels better than being able to help spread positivity and enjoy doing what you love at the same time.”
The team of members who put on the event were incredibly passionate for the cause from the get-go. Their passion deterred any struggles or conflicts between them and set their focus on a successful event. They continually set very large goals for themselves but were always positive that they could go above and beyond. Their efforts broke through their $7,500 goal and raised more than $8,400 for Charity:Water.
When asked what next year’s event would bring, Ha said he “hopes to have a more active involvement within our community. Most of our attendees were college students even though we were hoping to reach out to more parents, children, and families.”
