IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (September 23, 2015) — The fall Fraternity Advisor Conference (FAC) was held in Irvine, California from September 11 – 13, and provided an opportunity for active fraternity advisors to share ideas, explore issues and current challenges, and gain strategies to better relate to college students.
The FAC focuses on the concepts, skills, and values which advisors need to be effective in their roles as chapter and fraternity leaders. The conference is for volunteers who want to go further than the basics of advising and want to gain education on the “bigger picture” of working with successful chapters, maintaining a healthy Chapter Advisory Board, and be the best resource to the fraternity and the chapter.
Events during the fall conference included workshops on understanding and working with today’s college students. As new generations enter college, advisors require different forms of communication to better understand these students. “The consistent need to learn and adapt your skills to effectively advise the ever changing needs of college students can be overwhelming. The Fraternity Advisor Conference makes this task a lot easier,” said Christopher Pye, Shippensburg ’04-Life.
As the conference progressed, attendees reflected on their gained experiences and what they will truly take away from the FAC. “I left with a good foundation of support from fellow brothers who have the same heart for service to the fraternity and students as I do,” said Caroline Ray, Western Michigan ’13. “Many have offered to be a support for me that I have not had prior to now. The authentic conversation and sharing over that short weekend alone has been invaluable. The ability to get to know Heritage [Center] staff better was also greatly valued. The more I learn about AKPsi, the more committed I become.”
Another opportunity to attend the FAC is available in April 2016 in Indianapolis, IN. Registration for the conference is on a first-come first-served basis. Eligibility requires attendees must be a current, reported, CAB member, chapter or faculty advisor, regional manager, section director or regional director at the time of the conference.
