Our Statement
We, Alpha Kappa Psi, condemn acts of sexual violence. We stand with those that are courageous enough to come forward and are committed to raise awareness and to be a leader in the movement to eliminate sexual violence. That is why, as a fraternal community, we commit to:
- As our Code of Conduct states: “Alpha Kappa Psi Members must comply with all federal, state, provincial, and local laws related to sexual misconduct. The includes, but is not limited to, sexual violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, definitions around consent, and creating environments or situations which facilitates sexual misconduct.”
- Alpha Kappa Psi will fully cooperate with the institution of higher education or police on any investigation.
- Alpha Kappa Psi will continue to take opportunities to educate members with strategies for prevention and intervention through a by-stander model. We will also educate and encourage our members to practice healthy interpersonal relationships with open communication, honesty, accountability, and healthy physical and emotional boundaries.
- Alpha Kappa Psi will utilize expert resources including the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and RAINN to provide information to members.
- Alpha Kappa Psi recognizes university administrations and law enforcement officials as the authorities to investigate, adjudicate, and administer discipline in cases of sexual misconduct and will comply with the outcomes of these investigations. Alpha Kappa Psi will be transparent in providing reporting options for survivors on our website which will include:
- In case of an emergency, call 911.
- In instances where someone is willing to have forensic evidence collected, contact the local rape response/crisis center or a local emergency room.
- Report to the host institution (Title IX, Student Conduct, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office)
- Report to the police.
