While attending a five day training offered by Salesforce in Las Vegas last week, Director of Technology and Alumni Development, Jeffery D. Hughes, South Florida ’00-Life achieved the Administrator and Platform Developer I certifications.
Salesforce is a complex Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system which the fraternity utilizes. From the Sales Cloud to the Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Community Cloud and more, it is important to stay on top of the technology. The system is updated three times every year – which may not sound like much, but it is a big deal in the tech industry.
Salesforce University: Destination Success offers nine learning tracks for the participants’ choosing. Last year, Hughes attended the inaugural event in Las Vegas and went through the Experienced Salesforce Administrator Track. This year, he completed the Platform Developer I track where he enhanced his programmatic language skills by learning to write custom business logic using Apex.
“The training itself is a tremendous help,” said Hughes. “It allows me to not only learn the system directly from experts in the field, but also provides hands-on learning. When you couple this with the ability to get specific answers to your questions and network with professionals who face similar challenges, it turns the whole event into something very special.”
As a Salesforce-certified administrator, Hughes is in a unique position to customize the platform and empower Alpha Kappa Psi to maximize the functionalities of Salesforce. During his platform developer assessment, Hughes’ technical proficiency was put to the test. Salesforce-certified developers use their skills to extend and customize applications on the Force.com platform.
“Personally, I feel that it has been exactly what I need to better understand Salesforce,” said Hughes. “As we transition to using Salesforce internally, having a strong foundation of the intricacies will be essential for Alpha Kappa Psi’s success.”
